A 25,000 kms drive around South America - Oct/Nov 2001

Starting and finishing on Copacapana Beach, Rio de Janeiro. Driving 25,000 kms through six countries: Brazil, Argentina, Bolivia, Peru, Chile and Uruguay. One hundred cars: fifty classics and fifty 4x4's.

Day 6 - Iguazu to Corrientes

Another early start to cross into Argentina. The border crossing was managed quite quickly. We saw our first sign saying 'Las Malvinas son Argentinas'.

It was a very long drive on an extremely straight road with many lorries at first. Then it became quite empty and we saw many birds: birds of prey, egrets and pink birds. We stopped at Jesuit ruins where an early lunch was available in a marquee.

The welcome band in Corrientes.

We arrived first in Corrientes at a very average hotel - the Corrientes Plaza - but with lovely staff who sent out laundry for us and recommended the Hotel Gran Turismo for dinner.

We went into the Plaza and took photos of children in fancy dress then walked towards the port with Colin. Dinner with Colin, the Robinsons and Anna and Jonathan Pelly-Fry. Met a delightful local girl who spoke good English. It was her father's birthday and we sang Happy Birthday to him!

Our hotel and main square in Corrientes.

Total distance driven today was 400 miles. We have now driven 1,843 miles.
